Zachary Rall

Zachary is a catering chef for University Catering on-campus catering and the Ohio Union. Chef Zach started his career with the university as a student employee at Baker Commons in the autumn of 1997. While at Baker, he was quickly promoted to Student Manager. He soon realized that a four-year education might not be right for him (thanks, Math Department) and decided to pursue a career in the culinary industry outside of Ohio State. After working in various roles in the Columbus restaurant scene, he returned home to Baker Commons. After a year at Baker as a Custodian, he took a position at Market Place on Neil as a Line Cook and hasn’t looked back. Over the last 20 years, Chef Zach has worked in various roles in Campus Dining, including Assistant Chef at North, Baker, and Morrill Commons. Overseeing the re-opening of the newly imagined Mirror Lake Creamery and Grill. Since 2010 he’s hung his tongue in University Catering. First as Assistant Chef, and currently as Chef. In his role at UC, he helps to support dining locations within Campus Dining. Zach’s day-to-day is concentrated on executing on-premise and off-premise events, and ensuring UC is producing delicious, nutritious, and beautiful food. In his auxiliary role, Zach oversees student hiring, onboarding and scheduling for a team of 30+ student employees on campus. In his limited spare time, Zach enjoys spending quality time with friends and family. He is an avid aquarist, and he loves spending money on lavish meals. Chef is also a collector of fine wines and borosilicate glass.
